NOTES

Bite's Heating Up Along the Western Basin!

Lake Erie Metropark - Wayne, MI

Yellow perch action is picking up on the Michigan waters of Lake Erie, especially near the usual late-spring hotspots like Brest Bay, Bolles Harbor, and out from Luna Pier. Anglers are reporting solid schools in 17 to 22 feet of water, with the best results coming from those who stay mobile and track the fish with electronics.

The key to success right now is anchoring over active pods and using spreaders tipped with emerald shiners or soft-shell crayfish. A slow and steady jigging motion is getting the most bites, and downsizing tackle seems to be making a difference in clearer water conditions.

Most catches are averaging 8 to 11 inches, with occasional jumbos pushing 13 inches showing up in the mix. Early mornings and late afternoons have been the most productive windows, especially when there's a light chop on the water. As water temps continue to rise, look for the bite to stay consistent and improve even more through the next couple of weeks.
